Over the years, Dave and I have been going to Gordon Biersch in the Parole Shopping Center in Annapolis. We have seen a menu change through the years and really enjoy the meals that they are offering. We have been there with just us two, we’ve had a dinner with his parents there and my full time employer has also used them for after work happy hour events. But, recently, it has been a favorite place to go once we have had Caroline. We usually get a booth with her just because it’s easier to deal with her in a booth setting. Her car seat doesn’t fit in between the table and booth seat, but, we have that problem just about everywhere- if the table does not move freely. This is only a temporary problem, as she will be sitting in the high chair soon!
So, I’ll use my usual restaurant review template for giving our thoughts on the place.
Starting when you first walk in with the Host Stand. Every single time we go in there, there is always someone waiting at the stand with a smile. There have been many times that Dave or I will have gone online to their website and reserved a table for however many of us are going. This is a new thing to us and we try to make use of it whenever we can. It is very helpful and we have skipped many people waiting around for a table. Using this usually gets us to be sat within minutes or even seconds of walking in the door. They do a great job with this. (I better not be jinxing us!) We are always whisked away from the waiting area to our table.
The table appearance is the next thing on my list. GB always does a great job at this. Seating is always set with silverware, fork tip up, just as they should be. I have also noticed that with each visit, the salt is always on the right, ADA acceptable. White on the right, check! It takes us a minute or two to get situated with Caroline, usually, but we have always had a server with a great server greeting. They’re always on point with greet timing. Servers all have a smile on their face.
When we first started going there again, I was still dairy and soy free for Caroline. I was so incredibly thankful for the server that we had for that visit. For the life of me, I can not remember her name or I would totally give her a shout out. I explained the situation to her and thankfully she understood the seriousness of it. She told us she had a son who they thought he may be intolerant as well but ended up being just fine. So, she was familiar with what was going on. She was great in helping me pick out what I wanted to eat. We have a couple favorite appetizers there.
We like the southwest nachos and the ahi tuna nachos. They both have crispy wonton chips- that we can’t get enough of. Our server helped us decide what was safe with those appetizers and if it wasn’t safe, she put it on the side so Dave could still enjoy those parts. So helpful! GB also has an allergen menu online which can be helpful too, but, it doesn’t hurt to double check with the servers and chefs in the restaurant where you are going.
They also have a huge list of craft beers 🍻 and fun cocktails 🍹. Dave is a huge fan of the Hefeweizen. He’s mentioned that it is one of his favorite beers ever. So, if you’re looking for a good one to try- he would recommend this one.
We ordered our appetizers and entrees. With every visit, we always experience great food timing . They rarely bring out the entrees before we are done the appetizers. That is saying a lot since we sometimes have a hard time getting through a meal in a timely manner if Caroline is giving us a hard time. That being said, the servers have been great with pre-bussing. We aren’t always finished with some plates when you think we would be because of timing with Caroline, but, once we are done, the servers are quick to get the dirty dishes out of our way.
Drink Service is always good here. I give them a run for there money too. I love to drink iced tea. Whichever brand they use- oh em gee, it is delicious. I go through some tea while I’m there. So, they’re always running for me, thank goodness.
Check Ready. I feel like now a days, it is getting more rare for a server to be check ready, which drives me nuts. Since having Caroline, I have become more aware of it. There have been times she is starting to get fussy and we want to get out of a restaurant quickly and can’t because we are waiting for them to bring the check. This is one of the reasons why we were taught at the restaurant I worked at to always be check ready. But, anyway…. the last couple times we have been there, the server has been check ready and it makes me so happy. I believe we had a server named Amanda last time we were there and she excelled on so many levels. She was great with timing, recommendations and she was check ready. I looked at Dave and got so excited. The little things in life! We got out of there quickly and efficiently with Caroline and it was so helpful.
With the baby, I’m visiting the restaurant bathrooms more than I would like to on a personal level. I’m so OCD about bathroom cleanliness and most restaurants have a hard time keeping up with bathroom cleanliness, so I tend to avoid them. But, GB, does a great job staying on top of the bathrooms. They’re always stocked, clean anddddd they have a baby changing station! Wahoo ☺️ I am finding that more restaurants don’t have baby changing stations. It is so frustrating trying to find a place to change a squirmy baby. I’ve had to use the back of a toilet seat, sink counter tops and, unfortunately, the back of a toilet tank. Luckily, I have a portable changing pad and it gets Lysol wiped every day, but still, it is not safe to be having to change her diaper in these unstable areas. So, I was very happy to see that they have a table and that it was clean and usable. Some restaurants have them but never clean them. I’ve found more tables that are broken than I would like to. It’s been a frustrating experience. So to find a working, clean one is exciting! Go Gordon Biersch.
So, those are our thoughts on Gordon Biersch. Great food, great service, delicious drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. We highly recommend going there. Now that I have written this, I bet we will go in the next couple days because now I am craving those nachos. Insert mouth drooling here. If you get the chance to go, let me know what you think and what your favorite menu item is in the comments!
