So, it’s pretty well known knowledge that I’m no Ace in the kitchen.
I grew up playing sports that took over the evening hours. My dad worked a job that didn’t have set work hours. He could be home in the afternoon or not get home until the wee hours in the morning. It all depended on the number of refrigeration service calls he got. So, it was quite hard for mom to cook dinner at home not knowing when he’d be home and it was even harder to cook when my sports practices, classes and games took over the whole evening. Needless to say, I didn’t learn much about the kitchen growing up but I wouldn’t change that.
So once I moved out and went to college it was time to start learning my way around the kitchen. Over the years, I have definitely become more comfortable in there but still have to follow recipes and tend to stick to a group of recipes I know well.
Honestly, once I started dating Dave, seeing his mom run around the kitchen like a pro, it made me try new things and new recipes. She’s a great cook and very confident in the kitchen since cooking is a big interest of hers.
During my pregnancy with my daughter, I ended up on bed rest for 12.5 weeks prior to having her. To read more about that, click Our trying to conceive to delivery story. During these weeks, both my parents and my husbands parents would come over every Thursday evening to celebrate making it to another week of the pregnancy.
Living every day of pregnancy in fear of the unknown and fear of what might happen to our daughter made these nights even more special to me. Many nights my mother in law would cook dinner. It was always so inspiring to watch her whiz around my kitchen creating mini masterpieces. We have had many dinners at her house over the years that were all delicious.
I wanted to become more comfortable in my own kitchen and experiment with recipes. So, I’ll share some of my favorite recipes that we use at home. Some of them will be from other sources and I’m going to start creating some of my own recipes.
Time to step out of my comfort zone! I’d love for you to share your family favorites.
