I’ve got a confession to make. Some of you may or may not agree with it or support it, but, to each their own.
We all parent in different ways.
We do what works for our families.
What you do with one baby, might not be the same parenting skills you use with your next child.
For now. It’s not what we did in the beginning, it kind of turned into this.
I know the safety precautions of it, I know the scariness of it. You don’t have to lecture me on it.
Just hear me out.
At the beginning, Caroline had a rough time falling asleep and staying asleep. But, once she was finally down for the night, she’d sleep in her Rock N Play.
Her Rock N Play was great because it kept her slightly elevated in a safe manner. She had really bad reflux and would wake throughout the night to spit up, projectile vomit and on occasion, she’d start to choke her own spit up.
That was some of the scariest times of parenting so far. There’s nothing like finally falling asleep to being woken up by a choking noise from your infant.
I breastfed for a little while, but due to her allergies and sensitivities, we switched to an allergy friendly formula. But, I spent many nights sitting in bed trying to Caroline to fall back asleep or in the rocking chair.
She is a snuggler, she loves snuggling. Whether she’s awake or sleeping, she loves to snuggle.
It just started to happen that she would stay in bed with us. I became a super light sleeper and still wake to her every move.
I know, it seems ridiculous to let her sleep with us and in turn, ruin my nights sleep every night. But, like I said earlier, it is what works for us for now.
I’ve done my research about co-sleeping and know their are many safe co-sleeping devices.
I have looked into a couple of them, but, the Dock-A-Tot was always the one I kept going back to. It seemed like the most practical, functional and safest product out there.
I reached out to the company and was sent a DockATot for free in return for an honest review. All of these are opinions of my own and I’m writing this to share my honest thoughts of the products for you. I will provide links to the item throughout the post, that if you use, I may be compensated for- at no extra cost to you. This does not impact my thoughts on the product whatsoever. This post also contains other affiliate links that, again, if you use, I may make a small commission from, at no extra cost to you.
I was so incredibly excited to get the DockATot delivered so quickly! It came in a cute black shipping box.
Caroline loves opening surprise presents as much as I do. When I got home from work one night, it was on our back steps waiting for us.
We eagerly brought it inside and sat on the floor to open it. Inside the box, our DockATot was delivered in a clear carrying/storage case.
Caroline was so excited to see her new bed, as we call it, she was literally crawling in the box to see what was inside.
We pulled out the gorgeous DockATot Grand in the Minty Trellis pattern and unwrapped it from it’s carrying case. DockATot is made in Europe, but, was designed in Sweeden.
Caroline immediately took to the DockATot and has loved it since Day One.
The DockATot comes in a couple of sizes. I wish we would have reached out to the company way earlier, to get the DockATot Deluxe+. The Deluxe+ is for babies who are 0-8 months (5-22 lbs).
The Deluxe DockATot is the perfect place for baby to sleep (always on their back), lounge around, play with some toys, do tummy time and even get their diaper changed.
No need for a separate diaper changing station, you can use your DockATot.
But nonetheless, I’m so excited that we were able to get the DockATot Grand. This is the one that is perfect for Caroline.
The Grand is perfect for babies as they grow and mature. It is the stage two lounger that they offer. The Grand version is made for children from ages 9-36 months or 22-40 lbs. The functions of this model are the same as the Deluxe+ listed above.
This one is also great for helping them transition to their own toddler bed as well. That is one thing we are excited to use it for when we are done co-sleeping. The built- in, air permeable sides that act like bed rails can allow young children to get used to sleeping by themselves in a safe space in their toddler beds.
All of the material used to make the DockATots are hypoallergenic, washable and breathable. Yes, it’s been tested for breathability! Bringing peace to our minds knowing that she is sleeping safely.
It’s handmade in Europe and made with 100% all natural cotton. It’s EKO-TEX certified too.
Currently, we place the DockATot in between Dave and I and that is where Caroline can sleep safely with us. What’s great is, since she is used to sleeping and playing in it, it works great when we take it to Gigi’s House. I know it will be awesome when we take it traveling to Florida with us in a couple of weeks as well.
During the day, we bring the DockATot in to the Family Room and Caroline has been known to crawl over to it, lay back and play with a toy, watch a minute or two of a television show or even get me to crawl on the floor and read a book to her as she lays back and relaxes.
We found it very amusing that, not only does Caroline LOVE it, our 7 year old dog loves it too. She thinks it’s a bed we bought for her and I have found her snuggling with Caroline in it multiple times already.
It’s adorable when they both lay down in it to take a nap together. When we take it to Gigi’s House, her dog tries to snuggle with Caroline in it too, when she is playing in it! It is definitely loved by all.
It’s such a soft bed to lay in that I’d love to have one myself! If only they made a comfy portable bed like this for adults! I’d be set.
The DockATot Grand currently comes in 6 patterns, but they also currently have 17 different patterns in the DockATot covers available online.
We’d love to hear your thoughts if you have a DockATot in the comments below! Feel free to share this post with any mom to be new mom or any mother who is struggling to get some safe sleep in their lives.
I know using the DockATot for us has truly brought more hours of safer sleep in our life. I am so happy that we finally got one to use and I can’t wait to use it with our future children!
Here’s some more fun pictures of Caroline using it or how we use it in our house!
